ISTANBUL – Thanks to Australia’s tasteful independent label Hidden Shoal Recordings, we now have a fresh new band to cherish our downtempo moments with: Apricot Rail. Perth-based band is being described as multi-instrumental pop quintet. Don’t let the word “pop” fool you though. Not that there is anything wrong with being pop; it is just not that pop. In the mean time you can so count on the word “multi-instrumental” which is seriously adding up a rich atmosphere to the notes of Apricot Rail. From clarinet, flute to saxophone, glock and electronica there is a wide range of diversity in the instruments base.
Debut single Pouring Milk Out The Window is standing out with the soft touch of clarinet over the instrumental post-rock simplicity. The unsurprising stabile chords sailing forward on the harmonical compound of diversity giving away a hat-in-hand type of relaxation. Rises and falls of tune effervescing in the shape of flute leaving a jazzy feeling behind. Having this low tempo melodic structure; Apricot Rail reminds me of another Trans-Tasman post-rock beauty. Jakob from New Zealand that is: only with more drums and less flutes obviously.
Apricot Rail. Now that is really a summery – juicy name for a band. Nice. Had to get that out of my chest before sharing this brand new instrumental fairness.
Apricot Rail’s self-titled debut full legth is due to release by 4th of July. Until then we have Pouring Milk Out The Window to soothe our curiosity.
