Annuals are kicking off a tour with The Dears (Arts&Crafts) on January 15, for ten days. A highlight of the tour is a Late Night appearance on Conan O'Brien on January 18, giving them nationwide exposure, thanks to Sneak Attack Media.
Annuals released their first nationally distributed album, Be He Me, via Ace Fu Records on October 17. Speaking to their musical maturity, their website states, "members often switch instruments live and in studio and offer input in the way of samples, vocals and percussion creating what might be called a musical commune."
It's interesting to note that the oldest member is 22, though the members have been working together on music for seven years. Sometimes side-projects overtake the role of the original band, and that's what happened when Sedona formed the Annuals in 2003 and released two albums through the Terpsikhore Collective. The collective acts as a record label and recording studio for artists in Raleigh, North Carolina. They released Lay Down Dry in 2005, and the Git Got EP in 2006.
Spin Magazine describes their sound: "Combining sunny layers of strings, classical piano, stomp-rock riffs, entrancing space noices, and triumphant shouts. Twenty year-old frontman Adam Baker writes melodically intricate and ecstatically dissonant songs that recall Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene, but Annuals have thier own utterly exotic aura."
