Andrew Bird: going green

Andrew BirdAndrew Bird released Armchair Apocrypha today, March 20, to much applause across the indie blogosphere. Fat Possum Records is pushing the album in the US, and Fargo Records is promoting it in Europe. In 2005 Mysterious Productions of Eggs picked up quite a bit of indie press, and Armchair Apocrypha is continuing the well-deserved excitement over Bird.

Though tonight's show was cancelled "due to illness", Andrew Bird is going on an environmentally friendly European and North American tour to support Armchair Apocrypha. Stonyfield and Reverb are backing up Bird's wish of going green by using a BioDiesel powered tour bus, having carbon neutral concerts, and contracting the shows with an eco-friendly contract rider. "Each show's CO2 emissions will be neutralized with renewable energy offsets through Native Energy," explains Reverb. Andrew Bird will be joined by Cold War Kids, Tokyo Police Club, Elvis Perkins, Apostle of Hustle, and Cortney Tidwell.

Aquarius Records talks up Andrew Bird's latest: "We're guessin' that with his latest full length, Andrew Bird's already rapt followers will become even more so… and be joined by a whole bunch of new fans too. If you're already familiar with this unassuming, sensitive singer/songwriter, Armchair Apocrypha needs no introduction. It's a terrific progression from his last album Mysterious Production Of Eggs (2005)."
