Amiina: to release Kurr on March 21

Posted by Flick in Uncategorized on 03 3rd, 2007 | View Comments

Amiina performing on Feb 18, 2007Amiina, the string section that backs Sigur Rós, is releasing their full-length debut on March 21, 2007. The album is called Kurr, Icelandic for rumbling. The all-female Icelandic quartet is releasing the first print of Kurr on their own label, Bláskjár Records, available online and at shows until the band has finished negotiating a record deal for a worldwide release.

"Amiina are currently negotiating record deals to release the new album through traditional routes, but meantime, this is best and only the way to acquire this quiet gem of a debut." (Sigur Rós' London-Reykjavik Recorder)

Amiina explains on their website, "We're talking to some people who want to make it more widely available, so by this summer it will hopefully have travelled to most decent record stores around the world."

According to the latest Sigur Rós update, Amiina will be touring the US and Canada during the months of March and April. Tom Brosseau will be supporting Amiina on their East Coast shows. They will be performing with Sufjan Stevens, "both in their own right and as part of Sufjan Stevens band for his performance at Now Festival," in Cincinnati on April 6.

From 2004 and 2006 Amiina toured with Sigur Rós as their string section. During this time they released AnimaminA EP as a self-release in December 2004, then signing with The Worker's Institution for a May 2005 release. Most recently they released the Seoul EP/single. Seoul was released in 2006 through The Workers Institute in the US, Rumraket in Denmark, and Speak N Spell Music in Australia and New Zealand.

Amiina performed at London's Art Theatre on October 18, 2006, and have since released eight live bootlegs on Popplagid. The website documents Sigur Rós and Amiina, providing information on every recording, professional as well as bootleg, these bands have made.

about us

Puddlegum began in 1997 as one of the first online music magazines. It is managed by Flick, and has gained respect from many in the recording industry.

Over the years Puddlegum has accomplished quite a few things we are proud of:
Being mentioned by Thom Yorke during a BBC Radio interview (concerning our Tens Theory), and being written about in Rolling Stone. We have also made the front page of TUAW, Digg, and VH1’s Best Week Ever, and have been featured on USA Today, and Reuters.
