Alaska in Winter releases Holiday

Posted by Flick in Media, Mp3 Singles on 11 8th, 2008 | View Comments

Ten months ago we introduced you to Alaska in Winter, an electro project headed by Brandon Bethancourt. He had spent a winter in an “isolated cabin on the south coast of Alaska,” and tracked his debut, Dance Party In The Balkans. Teaming up with Zach Condon of Beirut and Heather Trost of A Hawk And A Hacksaw, Brandon mixed in Balkan influences with electronic music.

This New Mexico native apparently enjoys immersing himself in new settings and giving his music complete focus. Since he released his debut, Brandon Bethancoart moved to Berlin and produced his sophomore album, Holiday.

Check out the first single, Berlin, “a catchy, up-tempo, electro gem directly influenced by the current underground music scene in Berlin.” Holiday will be released on November 18.

Brandon explained on Regular Beat:

“Well, I think each place I go to and record music (whether New Mexico, Alaska, New York, or Berlin) the recordings reflect the place I’m in as well as where I am mentally at that time – and I’d have to say that I’ve definitely been influenced by Berlin on this album – it’s much more electronic than the last, heavily based on synths, basses, and dancier drums and with hints of minimal house elements creeping in ever so slightly. Even within the album itself I can hear a progression of the Berlin electronic music scene influencing me more and more with the amount of time I spent here – for example, ‘We Are Blind on the Merry-Go-Round’ (which was the 1st song I worked on) to ‘Berlin’ or ‘Streetgang Part 3′ or ‘Knorrpromenade’ which were the last songs I did for this album. Really, the Berlin techno party fun times and all night dance marathons were big inspirations for me.”
